Dear Professional,

Today the business of being a club tennis professional demands more than just expertise in teaching and playing the game. To have a successful career, a club pro must also possess a vast array of managerial, marketing, financial and  public relations skills. Net Profit was created to help you attain these business skills. It teaches you sound business principles to use within your club operation to generate enthusiasm among your staff, excitement among your members, and most of all, pride and profits for yourself and your club. Furthermore,  Net Profit  makes it easy for you and your staff to evaluate your personal qualities, skills and experiences that will assist you in defining your goals and objectives.

Net Profit  was designed to present the information I found necessary to advance my career as a club tennis professional.  Because of the amount of information available within the industry, it will not provide a detailed look at teaching techniques or drills.   The program will however give the newcomer a complete overview of life as a club tennis professional.  It will give the struggling pro the systems and structure necessary to turn his career around, while providing the established tennis professional with the information he needs to improve his existing operation. I've found that pros after completing this program initially continue to use it as a basic reference guide on a regular basis. Finally, it should give all club general managers the insight to better understand the value of his or her club's tennis professional.

Creating Net Profit is not a new idea.  For years I've read books, attended seminars, written articles, given seminars, surveyed pros and talked to knowledgeable people within the tennis industry.  This was done with the idea that someday I would have the time to complete such a project.  I feel fortunate that my circumstances gave me this opportunity.

I am presenting this information to you not only from my research, but also from my experiences.  I've walked in your shoes. I've played and taught around the world, given instruction to players from tiny tots to world ranked professionals.  I have been an assistant pro, head pro, director of tennis, director of sports and general manager.  I have run pro shops, pro tournaments, fund-raisers and numerous USTA events.  I've been involved in the planning, construction and development of a major tennis facility.  As a national speaker, I've visited outstanding tennis clubs and talked with top leaders within the tennis community.

Having been a general manager of a country club, I gained new insights into what a manager looks for in a tennis professional. As an active member of the Club Managers Association of America and the International Health, Racket and Sports Club Association, industry information was readily available. During presentations at club manager conventions, I have had the opportunity to talk with hundreds of managers that had questions about their tennis departments.  I understand what managers and owners think about tennis professionals and the performance standards they expect from us.

My eighteen years on divisional and national boards for the United States Professional Tennis Association was an outstanding experience.  It gave me access to valuable information about the tennis industry while also allowing me to develop friendships I will have forever.

Tennis has taken good care of me through the years.  My hope is that Net Profit will make your life as a tennis professional a lot easier.  I wish you nothing but the best in your development as a  tennis professional and businessperson.

Sincerely,

Dave Sivertson
